Vocal performance and psychology behind it.

Hello everyone. Very often during the performance we experience unpredictable situations. To be clear, these are- anxiety, fear, temporary loss of memory, panicking, et cetera. In most of the cases, the core of the issue is the way our mind and nervous system work during those moments. Being vocal coach is not enough in this situation. I recommend to everyone to explore some basics of the psychology of performance and don’t limit thinking just around “creating the sound”.

It is a big pleasure for me to introduce here two very interesting videos related to the psychology of the performance. Furthermore, you will find in the bottom of this page the article “understanding sport and performance psychology”. It has been published by American Psychological Association.

As a vocal coach and singing teacher, I often tell my pupils “We are what we think”. Moreover, , this phrase is related directly to the performance on the stage. Explore yourself on a deeper level and sing better

In conclusion, I would like to add that it is great always to be curious and explore yourself from a different angle. Physical element in musical performance is secondary, our thinking during the performance is the primary thing. It is extremely important to learn equally about these two ingredients. Whether you work with your singing teacher/vocal coach or on your own, always remember- give more importance to the very beginning of the sound. That is to say, control the thought.

To summarise, well shaped thought and clear understanding of the sound will lead you to the most amazing musical phrase. Keep exploring and good luck with your performance!
