Technique & Breathing
How can I improve breath control?
Train a quiet, low inhalation and a measured exhalation supported by the diaphragm, ribs, and back. Think “steady, not pushy.”
What is appoggio and why does it matter?
Appoggio (“to lean”) balances breath pressure and muscular resistance to keep tone buoyant and free.
What is the vocal bridge / passaggio and how do I master it?
The passaggio is the bridge between chest and head. Mastery blends resonance, vowel adjustment, and steady breath for seamless transitions.
What is a clean vocal attack?
A clean onset starts breath and vibration together — neither aspirate nor hard glottal — improving clarity and preventing strain.
How does diaphragm control shape my tone?
Coordinated diaphragm, ribs, and abdominal wall regulate airflow, producing steady, radiant tone with elastic support.
Style, Riffs & Repertoire
Which styles do you teach?
Opera & classical, musical theatre, jazz, pop/rock, film & contemporary — technique adapts while healthy function remains constant.
How do I learn riffs and runs cleanly?
Slow the pattern to speech-tempo, practise on a single vowel, then subdivide with a metronome for evenness — a “string of pearls.”
How can I expand my range safely?
Work near the passaggio with semi-occluded exercises (straw, lip trills), refining vowels gradually across the bridge.
Practice & Progress
Five tips to improve your singing quickly
1) Stabilise breath before volume.
2) Use SOVT exercises daily.

Do you teach absolute beginners and professionals?
Yes — from first foundations to role preparation and studio work, lessons are tailored to each singer.
How long until I notice progress?
Many singers feel improved coordination within 2–4 sessions; deeper changes build over 8–12 weeks with consistent practice.
Performance & Professional Preparation
Do you prepare singers for auditions and recordings?
Yes — repertoire strategy, diction, pacing, emotional arc, and studio/stage techniques to perform at your best.
What’s a reliable pre-performance warm-up?
5–7 minutes: breath reset → gentle SOVT → legato 5-note → light staccato → two phrases at target dynamic.
How do you structure lessons?
A blend of technique, repertoire, musicianship, and performance craft — always aligned with your goals.
